ALL ABOUT ME

My Journey

My name is Shelagh, and my journey began at the start of 2018 when I literally stumbled upon reflexology.

Whilst on holiday I opted to visit the hotel spa, and noted they offered reflexology.

At the time I had a painful foot and thought ‘reflexology is something to do with massaging the feet right? That may help my foot’.

I got on the couch and suddenly panicked. Why did I opt for a foot massage when I have such a sore foot?

I needn’t have worried. I loved the treatment right from the start. There was no pain at all, and I felt extremely relaxed all the way through. I felt uplifted and pain free when the treatment ended.

I truly hobbled in and danced out.

This initial reflexology treatment introduced me to complimentary therapies and has changed my life.

I immediately knew this was something I wanted to offer other people, who like me, didn’t realise just how therapeutic and beneficial reflexology could be.

When I got home I enrolled straight away with the Open Study College and completed the course for Reflexology Level 3.

I then completed the VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Reflexology.

I have also obtained Accredited Certificates in Indian Head Massage, Salon System Lash and Brow Tinting, and the superior LVL lash lift and tint.

I am registered with The Guild of Holistic Therapists (MGHT) and The Guild of Beauty Therapists  (MGBT) so you know I am fully qualified and insured, and I am licensed under the London Borough of Havering.

I am continuously developing my skills and have further completed numerous advanced reflexology workshops, and obtained advanced reflexology diplomas, specialising in women’s health, stress and back pain.

I have a purpose built studio in my garden. The Garden Retreat lets you leave your worries at the door ensuring you enjoy a calm and relaxing environment throughout your treatment.

After each treatment I provide, I find I love reflexology even more. I’m forever amazed by the things I sense via the feet and take pride in the way I help my clients feel better following their treatment.

REFLEXOLOGY (FOOT)

WHAT IS FOOT REFLEXOLOGY?

The art of Reflexology dates back to ancient Egypt, India and China.

Reflexology can also be referred to as Zone Therapy or Meridians and Energy.

As energy can’t be seen by the naked eye, it can be difficult to comprehend, but it exists and should not be disregarded.

Reflexology is a holistic treatment based on the principle that there are areas and points on the feet, that map via the nervous system to corresponding parts of the body.

When pressure is applied to these areas and points, it stimulates the movement of energy along the nerve channels to the corresponding area of the body.

Reflexology naturally encourages the body to flush out toxins by boosting blood circulation and lymphatic movement.

FAQ

What happens during a reflexology session?

Pressure is applied to specific reflex points in the sole, sides and the top of your feet, whilst you relax with your feet up in a specialist chair or couch.

Your feet are cleansed, and a variety of techniques are applied to suit your individual needs using either cream, wax or oils of your choice.

Massage movements are slow and deliberate, allowing you to relax, and calm the mind.

How long does a session last?

A typical Reflexology treatment lasts for an hour on average.

What will I feel?

Experiences with reflexology sessions vary from an overall general feeling of relaxation, to a sense of "lightness" or “tingling” in the body.

As well as feelings of warmth, a sense of "opening," or "energy moving," from the pressure point on the foot to the specific body area may be felt.

There is no pain, but pressure can be felt on the foot.

How often should I have a treatment?

A general recommendation is to schedule an appointment once a week for the first six to eight weeks, then to schedule follow-up appointments every few weeks after that.

Having a reflexology session every 4-5 weeks will help keep the body in balance. It is important that plenty of water or herbal teas are consumed to aid in the detoxification after a reflexology session.

The general rule is that the longer you have been suffering with the pain, the longer it will take to improve.

What qualifications are required to practice reflexology?

I have a VTCT level 3 diploma in reflexology.

In addition I have Advanced Reflexology Diplomas, specialising in woman's health.

I am a member of The Guild Of Holistic Therapists MGHT, and also The Guild of Beauty Therapists MGBT, so you know I am fully qualified and insured.

How will I feel after treatment?

After your reflexology treatment you may feel thoroughly relaxed. You should experience a feeling of calm and well being as the stress and tensions are relieved and your circulation is improved, leaving all the systems in your body functioning fully and in their natural state.

What are the side effects?

Different reactions may be experienced for up to 24 hours following the reflexology session.

These may increase energy, relief from pain or other symptoms.

You may also experience tiredness, flu like symptoms, headache or muscular aches, increased mucus, enhanced sleep, and heightened emotions.

These reactions are perfectly normal and show that the toxins are being expelled from the body to enable rebalancing and cleansing.

Reflexology does not replace conventional care. Always consult a GP or health professional for medical attention and advice should any symptom cause you concern.

Who should not have reflexology?

Clients who report current thrombosis or embolism (which is an obstruction of the pulmonary artery or a branch of it by a free-floating blood clot or embolus) should not receive reflexology therapy. Since reflexology improves circulation, it could potentially cause a clot to move towards the heart or brain.

Clients with other conditions such as unhealed wounds, or active gout in the foot should avoid reflexology until the symptoms have cleared.

Conditions such as infections, foot fractures, osteoarthritis in the foot or ankle, cancer, diabetes are just a few samples where consent from your primary health provider may be required before reflexology can proceed.

This is not an exhaustive list and if you have any concerns contact me for a consultation.

AFTERCARE ADVICE

Rest and relax as much as possible to ensure the body can heal itself.

Drink plenty of water to flush out the toxins.

Avoid tea, coffee or drinks high in caffeine as they prevent you from relaxing.

Avoid alcohol and smoking for 24 hours as they replace the toxins being removed.

If you have any questions please contact me for a consultation.

REFLEXOLOGY (FACIAL)

Facial reflexology has all the same benefits as foot reflexology, with the additional delights of a neck and head massage

with some added side effects...

a radiant glow, firmer younger looking skin, and a glowing complexion.

This treatment has very positive emotional benefits, leaving you feeling rebalanced, relaxed, and mentally ready to face the day.

WHAT IS FACIAL REFLEXOLOGY?

Similar to foot reflexology, facial reflexology is also based on Zone Therapy.

Zone Therapy uses the whole body’s energy zones from head to toe, including  the face.

By focusing on specific reflex points on your face, your entire body is helped to function at its optimal level as your energy levels are rebalanced.

When pressure is applied to these areas and points on your face, it stimulates the movement of energy along the nerve channels to the corresponding area of the body.

Reflexology naturally encourages the body to flush out toxins by boosting blood circulation and lymphatic movement.

INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE

WHAT IS INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE?

Indian Head Massage is an ancient therapeutic art, originating from India as the name suggests, dating back thousands of years.

Traditionally it was practised by the women in the family to promote and maintain the strength and lustre of the hair, and barbers would incorporate a head massage as part of their treatments.

Indian Head Massage focuses on massaging acupressure points along the head, neck and shoulders relieving stress that has accumulated in the tissues, muscles and joints, rebalancing your bodies energies. It can be received with or without oils.

FAQ

What happens during an Indian Head Massage session?

A typical Indian Head Massage usually starts with the client sitting on a chair.

The shoulders and upper back are massaged and stretched, removing tensions held there. Continuing flowing motions move up the neck onto the scalp, massaging acupressure points on the head, forehead and around the eyes.

Oils can be used conditioning the hair and promoting healthy skin. Alternatively, the massage can be done without oils over light clothing.

The massage will have naturally conditioning effects, as the techniques used loosen the hair follicles increasing natural hair oil.

How long does a session last?

A typical Indian Head Massage treatment lasts between 25 minutes to 45 minutes depending on your requirements, and if combined with other holistic treatments.

What will I feel during a session?

During the session, you will feel pressure on the shoulders, neck head and face. No pain should be felt, only soothing movements of kneading, squeezing, pulling and tapping.

How will I feel after treatment?

After your Indian Head Massage treatment, you may feel thoroughly relaxed and calm, or rejuvenated and refreshed as the stress and tensions are relieved and your circulation is improved.

If oils are used you could also feel uplifted, invigorated and full of energy.

You may experience tiredness, light headedness or aching muscles for a short period after treatment.

What are the side effects?

Different reactions may be experienced for up to 24 hours following the Indian Head Massage session.

These may include increased energy, relief from pain or other symptoms.

You may also experience tiredness, dizziness, flu like symptoms, headache or muscular aches, increased mucus, enhanced sleep, and heightened emotions.

Indian Head Massage does not replace conventional care. Always consult a GP or health professional for medical attention and advice should any symptom cause you concern.

How often should I have a treatment?

A general recommendation is to schedule an appointment once a week. However, this will depend on your requirements, and can be more frequent if required, fortnightly or monthly. Indian Head Massage is very flexible and adaptable to your needs and preferences.

The general rule is that the longer you have been suffering with the pain, the longer it will take to improve.

What qualifications are required to practice Indian Head Massage?

I have an Accredited Beauty Diploma in Indian Head Massage.

I am a member of The Guild Of Holistic Therapists MGHT, and also The Guild of Beauty Therapists MGBT, so you know I am fully qualified and insured.

Clients who report current thrombosis or embolism (which is an obstruction of the pulmonary artery or a branch of it by a free-floating blood clot or embolus) should not receive therapy. Since Indian Head Massage improves circulation, it could potentially cause a clot to move towards the heart or brain.

Indian Head Massage should be avoided if you have had recent surgery, have a history of spondylitis or spondylosis, have a head or neck injury, or if you think you may be pregnant.

Clients with other conditions such as unhealed wounds, broken skin or sores, allergies, or receiving medication for any medical condition should avoid Indian Head Massage until the symptoms have cleared, or consent has been received from your primary health provider.

Conditions such as infections, osteoarthritis, cancer, epilepsy or diabetes are just a few samples where consent from your primary health provider may be required before Indian Head Massage can proceed.

EYELASH LIFT  NOUVEAU LVL

If you need a rest from false lashes but still want a false lash look, then come and see me for a lash lift and tint.

A lash lift let’s you make the most of your own assets with no added maintenance. Your own lashes will be lifted with a natural looking curve. The process is similar to a perm.

This makes them appear longer and fuller, giving the effect of ‘opening’ the eye.

The treatment lasts for 6-8 weeks in line with your own natural lash growth, and your lashes will look superb 100% of the time.

You can still wear mascara, if desired, for those times when an extra glamorous look is required. They are your own lashes.

EYELASH AND EYEBROW TINT

Eyelash Tint

An eyelash tint is a specific form of hair dye developed just for your eyelashes.

An eyelash tint gives the appearance of wearing mascara without all the hassle of applying it, trying to separate the lashes when they clog, and then smudging all your hard work when your lashes get wet or rubbed.

Your lashes appear darker and longer without any additional effort, allowing you to enjoy activities such as swimming and sports. You will not end up with those dark tell tale panda eyes, but can relax with confidence that your eyes will remain looking fabulous.

Eyebrow Tint

If you have fair eyebrows, then tinting them works wonders. Not only does tinting enhance your eyes, it also reduces the amount of time you spend using a brow pencil each day.

Eyebrow tint does not rub off and lasts approx 4-6 weeks depending on your natural hair colour and growth.

Have all three treatments together, and revel in your beautiful new look. The results are immediately visible.

All these procedures are safe.

When you attend your appointment for a consultation, a patch test is also required to check for any allergies.

A small amount of dye is applied either behind your ear or on the inside of your elbow to check in a safe place for any reactions to the dye.

A free patch test must be taken 24-48 hours prior to any treatment.

Hi

“At first I was sceptical about reflexology- how could my feet be connected to the rest of me I thought. However, I am truly amazed at how relaxing it is as well as the health benefits I have experienced since my first treatment. I suffer from osteoarthritis in my shoulders and am in pain most days, but after one session of reflexology the pain went away for several days. My pain is now more manageable with regular sessions. I would highly recommend giving reflexology a go - you’ll be surprised at the results”

Shelagh @ HSKT makes you feel at ease on arrival for reflexology. Listens and advises you on the best course of treatment. I suffered with Planter Fasciitis in both feet which was very painful and affected my walking.
With regular treatments, it gradually helped ease the pain and discomfort and finally it has gone. Doctors had told me it was something I would have to get used to as not much could be done.
I would thoroughly recommend HSKT for your reflexology treatments.

I have had both Reflexology and Lash Lift & Tint treatments with Shelagh.
At the beginning I didn't really know much about Reflexology and the benefits it can bring. I was pleasantly surprised on the results following some treatments I had with @HSKT to assist with severe headaches. On arrival for my sessions, Shelagh was really welcoming and puts you at ease straight away. I found her very thorough in her preparation for the treatments and ensuring I was comfortable at all times. The treatments are so relaxing - I have actually fallen asleep as I was so relaxed. Even after just one session, I felt the benefit - very relaxed and felt great!
My lash lifts & tints are also brilliant - great results and I cannot wait to have them done again!
Shelagh is very professional, certainly knows her stuff and I would definitely recommend her for your treatments

HSKT is a lovely and friendly business.  I contacted Shelagh for assistance with back pain using Reflexology.  It was astonishing what symptoms she picked up throughout my session and pinpointed areas of discomfort I was experiencing extremely accurately.  I would most definitely recommend her to anyone seeking reflexology and especially if it's their first time.  She immediately puts you at ease and provides a very personal and bespoke service.  I'm now in discussion with Shelagh to try other treatments on offer and cannot wait to go back!

I started visiting Shelagh, for reflexology, about 18 months ago.

Having suffered from migraine and arthritis for some time, I decided to try this therapy - also for relaxation.

Shelagh has a very welcoming manner, always a pleasure to visit, putting me at ease and always happy to discuss anything troubling me.

My arthritis can often make my joints tender and she always takes particular care, even transferring treatment to my hands when my feet were sensitive.

I would recommend her services and I look forward to being able to visit again after Lockdown.

Worst thing about lockdown, missing friends. Second worst thing, missing my reflexology sessions with Shelagh at HSKT. So relaxing, always came away happier and feeling as if floating on air. Has shoulder pain for well over a year after a fall, all gone after several sessions with Shelagh. I can’t wait to be able to book an appointment again.
